Description
This lot consists of 14 original German 5 Reichsmark coins dating from 1934 to 1936. These coins are 90% silver. They were produced by numerous mints and showcase slightly different designs. Four depict the Garnisonkirche in Potsdam, Germany, and on their reverse, the national eagle. The design commemorates the Day of Potsdam, March 21, 1933, on which the newly appointed Chancellor Adolf Hitler and German President Paul von Hindenburg championed the unification of both National Socialism and Prussianism. The others exhibit the same national eagle emblem as the prior design but pay tribute to the then-recently deceased former president who handed Hitler his chancellorship.
