Description
This lot consists of three original German 5 Reichsmark coins from 1935. These coins are 90% silver. They were produced by three separate mints and showcase slightly different designs. One is mint marked "E", denoting production by the Muldenhütten Mint, and its design is that of the Garnisonkirche in Potsdam, Germany, and on the coin's reverse, the national eagle. The design commemorates the Day of Potsdam, March 21, 1933, on which the newly appointed Chancellor Adolf Hitler and German President Paul von Hindenburg championed the unification of both National Socialism and Prussianism. The two others are mint marked "F" and "G", denoting production by the Stuttgart and Karlsruhe Mints, respectively, and their design exhibits the same national eagle emblem as the prior design but pays tribute to the then-recently deceased former president who handed Hitler his chancellorship.
