Description
This is an original pre-WWII German M1931 helmet liner. The leather liner is a size 56 and is to be paired with a size 64 helmet shell. The non-reinforced aluminum band is devoid of a manufacturer's and production date stamping, which was common for liners produced between 1932 and 1935 by Schuberth-Werk, K.-G., of Braunschweig, Germany. The internal band exhibits the early style size marking of "S Z63/56", while the outer band is stamped "64n.A./56". The leather is faintly inscribed with the original owner's partially legible feldpost number of "__942". This liner would be an ideal candidate for an interwar or M35 helmet.
Provenance
Private Collection, Chico, California
Condition Report
This helmet liner is in fair, well used condition. Unfortunately, the liner appears to have been installed in a helmet while it was being spray painted. Rather than masking the liner off, or removing it prior to painting, the previous owner scraped the leather to remove the overspray. Its drawstring is missing; however, all of its tongues remain intact. One of the spring band's slots is broken (shown in the final image); however, the liner's functionality is not impacted.
