Description
This is an original Vietnam War U.S. M-1 helmet liner leather chinstrap. It features a black painted steel buckle and blackened brass D.O.T. rivets. D.O.T. was the successor to United Carr and their rivets are seen on chinstraps produced from 1945 until the P55 liner's replacement in the mid-1960s. The buckle's underside is stamped with a small anchor.
Provenance
Private Collection, Dallas, Texas
Condition Report
This chinstrap is in good, used condition. The leather remains soft and pliable; however, one of the buckle's "ears" is slightly bent over preventing the buckle from fully opening. This does not impact the chinstrap's adjustability.
