Description
This is an original Vietnam War U.S. M-1 helmet set. It is named to a Corporal R. C. Bachman. Unfortunately, we were unable to locate any information on the veteran, making this piece an ideal research project for its new owner. It is decorated with an original Mitchell pattern camouflage helmet cover from the DSA-1-7005 contract, dating its production to 1964. The rear seam swivel loop helmet shell is actually of Korean War production and was reissued for continued service during the Vietnam War. It was manufactured by McCord Corp. of Detroit, Michigan and exhibits a lot number of "M-105A", approximately dating its production from 1951 to 1953. It retains an original olive drab field repaint, texture, and OD#7 (green) chinstraps. Interestingly, it still retains one of its green painted steel chinstrap brackets (denoting Korean War production), while the updated chinstrap hardware is stamped with small anchors, denoting production by North & Judd. The P55 helmet liner is also of pre-Vietnam War production, dating from 1955 to 1963. It features black painted steel A-washers and an OD#7 suspension. The suspension comes complete with its original 1964-dated headband and neckband. Inscribed on the headband's leather is Bachman's name and other markings. The liner's exterior retains an original olive drab field repaint.
