Description
This is an original WWI Imperial German Army Line Infantry Regiment Mannschaften (enlisted man's) M15 pickelhaube helmet. In accordance with the 1915 regulations, its hardware is constructed of grey oxidized steel. The helmet retains its original wappen (frontplate), bearing the motto "MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND", or "With God for King and Country", and the crown displays a steel baseplate, allowing for the removal of its now-missing spike. There is also a small, adjustable vent on the spine that supports the rear skirt - a feature only seen on enlisted men's helmets. The interior retains its original leather liner. Stamped in the helmet's interior dome is a size "55" marking.
Provenance
Private Collection, Oakley, California
Condition Report
For being well over 100 years old, this helmet is in fair, well used condition. The helmet has shrunk somewhat. Its rear skirt is damaged where the spine connects, and it is missing its chinstrap, cockades, and drawstring.
