Description
This is an original WWI U.S. Army enlisted man's uniform, consisting of an M1917 service tunic manufactured by Siegel Bros. & Goodman of New York, New York and breeches. Both pieces are constructed of a matching, field-grade wool. The service tunic retains its original "U.S." and Army Quartermaster Corps collar discs, 33rd Infantry Division shoulder sleeve insignia, with a red discharge chevron underneath, followed by two gold war service chevrons on the wearer's left cuff (denoting one year of overseas service in the "Zone of Advance"). On the opposite sleeve is a private first class cook's rank insignia patch. The breeches feature metal buttons marked "U.S. ARMY". No size labels could be located but please refer to the Measurements section for more details.
Provenance
Personal Collection of Chelius Carter
Condition Report
For being well over one hundred years old, this uniform is in good, well used condition. One of the tunic's collar hooks is missing; however, all of its original buttons remain intact. Both pieces exhibit mothing and stains throughout. The breeches' seat seam has weakened.
