Description
This is an original WWI U.S. Army M1917 "Brodie" helmet. Painted atop the helmet's original olive drab factory finish is the original stenciled insignia of the 36th Infantry Division. Its interior brim is marked with the lot number of "ZC18". Unfortunately, this particular manufacturer has yet to be positively identified; however, we can be certain it is of U.S. production due to the domed rivets securing the chinstrap loops (British-made helmets utilized split pins). Interestingly, there is a splotch of red paint applied on the helmet's interior brim. This was likely done by the original owner to quickly differentiate the front of the helmet from the rear. Its original oil cloth liner, leather chinstrap, and paper instructions label are still intact.
