Description
This is an original WWI U.S. Army enlisted man's uniform, consisting of an M1917 service tunic manufactured by Fifth Ave. Uniform Co. of New York, New York and breeches from the November 1, 1917, contract by Kalamazoo Pant Co. of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Both pieces are constructed of a matching, field-grade wool. The service tunic retains its original "U.S." and Army Corps of Engineers collar discs. The wearer's left sleeve features remnants of a shoulder sleeve insignia, with a red discharge chevron underneath, followed by one bullion wire war service chevron on the wearer's left cuff (denoting six months of overseas service in the "Zone of Advance"). The breeches feature metal buttons marked "U.S. ARMY". No size labels could be located but please refer to the Measurements section for more details.
Provenance
Personal Collection of Chelius Carter
Condition Report
For being well over one hundred years old, this uniform is in very good, used condition. All of its original rimmed buttons and hooks remain intact. Both pieces exhibit minor mothing, stains and small tears throughout.
