Description
This is an original WWI U.S. Army enlisted man's private purchase M1917 service tunic. It is constructed of a lightweight wool, commonly seen among parade dress uniforms. No manufacturer's or size label could be located but please refer to the Measurements section for more details. It shows evidence of a now-missing shoulder sleeve insignia patch, a discharge chevron underneath, followed by two service chevrons on the wearer's left cuff (denoting one year of overseas service). On the opposite sleeve, we can also see the faint outline of a sergeant's rank insignia patch. Stitched inside the tunic's collar is a strip of white cotton to protect the wearer's neck from the rough wool.
Provenance
Personal Collection of Chelius Carter
Condition Report
