Description
This is an original WWI U.S. Army cotton twill M1910 service tunic manufactured by The Nobby Tailoring Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio. No size label could be located but please refer to the Measurements section for more details. It retains its original Third Army shoulder sleeve insignia patch, with a red discharge chevron underneath, followed by two gold war service chevrons on the wearer's left cuff (denoting one year of overseas service in the "Zone of Advance"). On the opposite sleeve is a sergeant's rank insignia patch. Pinned above the wearer's left chest pocket are two World War I Victory Medals (the duplicate was likely added by a family member for safe keeping), one of which exhibits four battle stars. The middle award is a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) ribbon with one star denoting service in WWI, followed by an Inter-Allied Victory Medal. Stitched inside the tunic's interior pocket is its original tailor's label. It is very faintly inscribed with its original owner's identification details.
Provenance
Private Collection, New Boston, Michigan
Condition Report
For being well over one hundred years old, this tunic is in good, used condition. All of its vegetable ivory buttons are intact, as well as its two snap buttons near the lap. It exhibits some mothing throughout, and the stitching on the wearer's right armpit lining has failed.
