Description

This is an original pair of WWII German dienstglas 6x30 binoculars. These binoculars were produced by the rather uncommon manufacturer Optische Anstalt Oigee GmbH, of Berlin-Schoeneberg, Germany, and are marked "OIGEE, BERLIN", along with the serial number of "23749". The faint "M" marking signified metric scale measurements, which was no longer applied to binoculars produced after 1940. The "H/6400" marking denotes the presence of a range-finding reticle in the user's right-hand lens. The bridge's underside is twice marked with Oigee's Waffenamt, "WaA217". They come with their original, albeit damaged, leather carrying strap.

Provenance

Private Collection, Maryville, Tennessee

Condition Report

Good

Excellent

These binoculars are in well used condition, with quite clear optics given their age, however, the factory markings are heavily worn, the vulcanite (imitation leather) covering has deteriorated with use, the leather carrying strap is unfortunately damaged, and the user's left bakelite eyecup is chipped.
