Description
This is an original WWII German dienstglas bakelite case for the 6x30 binoculars. Its interior is marked "24" over "T2", which denotes Type 2 materials (synthetic resin with asbestos and other organic fillers) produced by Gebrüder Merten of Gummersbach, Germany ("GMG"). The interior is also marked "427UT". This case comes complete with its original leather carrying strap, which appears to be a repurposed strap that would normally be affixed directly to the dienstglas.
Provenance
Private Collection, Dallas, Texas
Condition Report
Bakelite dienstglas cases are often heavily cracked; however, this example's only damage appears to be its torn preßstoff pull tab and leather straps over the back hinge.
