Description
This is an original WWII German Luftwaffe officer's crusher cap manufactured by Heinrich Menge of Bernburg, Germany. This cap is constructed of feldblau wool with golden yellow waffenfarbe, denoting use by flyers and fallschirmjägers alike. It features a glossy black chinstrap and visor. The front is emblazoned with metal officer's insignia. Unfortunately, no size tag could be located, however, it has been measured and is a confirmed size 6 5/8. Interestingly, original newspaper is visible beneath the "K. H." decorated headband - likely placed there by the hat's original owner in order to provide a tighter fit. It still retains its original plastic headliner, which is inscribed "Heinrich Menge, Bernburg a. S., Krumbholzstr. 2, Telefon 2318".
Provenance
Private Collection, Belmar, New Jersey
Condition Report
This cap is in very good, used condition, however, the wool material exhibits some moth holes and the right prong on the eagle insignia has unfortunately snapped off.
