Description
This is an original WWII German M1931 helmet liner. The leather liner is a size 57 and is to be paired with a size 64 helmet shell. The band's date stamping is illegible; however, it is constructed of non-reinforced aluminum and was manufactured by Metall-Lederverarbeitung Werner Zahn Berlin, Charlottenburg 5, who continued to make this style of liner out of aluminum from 1940 until 1943, making it an ideal candidate for either an M40 or M42 helmet.
Provenance
Private Collection, Dallas, Texas
Condition Report
The aluminum band is in good condition, with no signs of post-war paint applications; however, the liner's leather appears to have been conditioned at some point.
