Description

This is an original WWII German M42 ex-double decal Polizei helmet. The inside brim is size stamped "hkp62", along with the lot number of "3901", denoting 1943 production by the Sächsische Emaillier und Stanzwerke A.G., Lauter factory. Its original feldgrau factory finish is intact; however, its single party decal is well worn. The corresponding Polizei decal appears to have been completely removed; this particular manufacturer produced many M42 double decal Polizei helmets for use by concentration camp guards. Applied at the helmet's rear is a spot of brown paint. The interior retains its original size 55 leather liner, drawstring, and chinstrap. The chinstrap exhibits a grey painted steel buckle. The helmet's split pins and washers are all original and show no signs of tampering.

Provenance

In July of 2025, Gustafson's acquired the inventory of Circa1941. This piece was among those acquisitions. Prior to Circa1941's possession, this helmet was purportedly brought home as a souvenir by a U.S. 3rd Armored Division soldier who liberated the Nordhausen concentration camp.
