Description
This is an original WWII German private purchase case for the 6x30 binoculars, constructed of preßstoff, an early type of ersatz or artificial leather. It was common at the time for officers' families to directly purchase the quintessential "officer" items (binoculars, sidearms, jackboots, etc.). Stamped behind its closure tab is the manufacturer's marking of Carl Zeiss of Jena, Germany. This case comes complete with its original leather carrying strap, which is marked with the surname of its original owner "-FOLGER-". A search of the Volksbund Grave Registry unfortunately reveals too many results to be conclusive.
Provenance
Private Collection, Dallas, Texas
Condition Report
This binoculars case is in excellent condition, with its only flaw of note being some crazing to the case's top and bottom.
