Description

This is an original WWII German second pattern Heer Deutsches Afrikakorps (DAK) pith helmet, constructed of a felt-like material. The leather headband is embossed with the manufacturer's marking "JHS", and its underside is marked with both its size and production date, "56-1942", respectively. Interestingly, the red felt lining had a functional intent; German engineers believed red material helped dissipate heat and is a common staple among DAK headwear. It still retains both of its original Heer and national colors badges.
