Description

This is an original WWII German second pattern Heer Deutsches Afrikakorps (DAK) pith helmet, constructed of a felt-like material. The leather headband is embossed with the manufacturer's marking "JHS", and its underside is marked with both its size and production date, "57-1942", respectively. The headband is also faintly inscribed with the original owner's name, an apparent "Mankey". Interestingly, the red felt lining had a functional intent; German engineers believed red material helped dissipate heat and is a common staple among DAK headwear. It still retains its original leather chinstrap and both of its original Heer and national colors badges.

This helmet is in good, used condition. Unlike many examples, both its leather chinstrap and badges remain intact. The helmet's leather brim has deteriorated, exposing the reinforcement wire underneath.
