Description
This original oil painting on board depicts a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force. We can see he is wearing his dress uniform consisting of the iconic crusher cap, Ike jacket with insignia, and a shirt and tie underneath. Judging by the sergeant's gold wedding ring, we can determine that he was married. On the wrist of the same hand, he appears to be wearing a gold watch, and on the opposite wrist a silver identification bracelet. The painting, marked with "K. Swierzy, Berlin, 1945" in the upper right corner, measures approximately 11 inches wide and 13.5 inches tall (including its original wooden frame). It is one of a few known works by German portrait artist K. Swierzy, who likely survived on soldiers' commissions at war's end. The reverse is marked "Oïl, 237756".
Provenance
