Description
This original WWII U.S. Army M1910 canteen is unusual in that its only visible marking is a small, stylized "S" inside its black bakelite cap, denoting production by Standard Cap & Molding Co. of Baltimore, Maryland. Following the unsuccessful trial of porcelain enamel M1942 canteens, Republic Stamping and Enameling Co. (REP Co.) of Canton, Ohio returned to using aluminum, again producing M1910 canteens, like this example, with horizontal seams. This canteen was manufactured by REP Co. in 1945 using "cold-rolled" aluminum - a material so hard the manufacturer's and date marking are frequently illegible. The canvas cover was produced in October of 1918 and bares the manufacturer's marking "F.S.F.", attributed to Frank S. Farnham. The cover appears to have been twice marked with its original owner's ID, both of which were subsequently crossed out.

Condition Report
This canteen is in fair condition. The cap cork is missing, and one of the cover's two closure snaps is pulling away from the canvas material.
