Description
This is an original WWII U.S. Army M1928 haversack. It was manufactured in 1942 by the rather uncommon producer, A. Reif & Co., of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Its interior is marked with its original owner's laundry number of "S-7597". A search of the National Archives unfortunately reveals too many results to be conclusive. This haversack retains an original mess kit pouch (also known as a "meat can").
Provenance
Private Collection, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Condition Report
This haversack is in good, well used condition. All of its straps, hooks and buckles remain relatively intact; however, it exhibits several field repairs - all of which appear to be wartime done.
