Description

This original WWII U.S. Army field gear kit is identified to George Petavine Jr., 39408531. View the Veteran's Information section for more details regarding Petavine's life and military service. The M1928 haversack was manufactured in 1941 by Baker-Lockwood Mfg. Co., Inc. It retains its original mess kit pouch (also known as a "meat can"). Inside are two leather pocket protectors for the mess kit's now-missing utensils. Both the haversack and mess kit pouch are marked with the original owner's name and Army Service Number, showcasing their long history together as a set. "B36" is stenciled on the underside of the mess kit pouch's flap. Unfortunately, its significance is unknown to us. Secured with thick twine to the haversack's bottom is its original pack carrier (also known as a "diaper"). Also included is Petavine's original M1936 pistol belt.
