Description
This is an original WWII U.S. Army M1928 haversack. It was manufactured in 1942 by Boyt Harness Co. of Des Moines, Iowa. The main flap is marked, presumably, with the original owner's nickname, "MAC". The same flap's standard "U.S." ink stamp was omitted during the manufacturing process. Collectors have yet to determine if these variants were the result of occasional quality control oversights or if the haversacks were intended for issuance to the USMC or USN. This haversack retains its original, matching mess kit pouch (also known as a "meat can").
Provenance
Private Collection, Memphis, Tennessee
Condition Report
This haversack is in good, used condition. All of its straps, hooks and buckles remain intact.
