Description
This is an original WWII U.S. Army M1928 haversack. It was manufactured in 1942 and is marked "MORTON M. ROSE". Interestingly, Rose was actually the senior partner of the Philadelphia Parachute Packing and Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Due to his leading of production contracts, the company's haversacks were marked explicitly with his personal name rather than the full company name to save stencil space and better track accountability. This haversack retains its original, matching mess kit pouch (also known as a "meat can"). A laundry number was applied and then subsequently crossed out on the reverse.
Provenance
Private Collection, Sarasota, Florida
Condition Report
This haversack is in good, used condition. All of its straps, hooks, and "WATERBURY BUCKLE CO." marked buckles remain intact. The webbing has faded somewhat.
