Description
This is an original WWII U.S. Army M1938 Mackinaw jeep coat. The M1938 saw extensive use in the European Theater of Operations, particularly by jeep drivers and officers during the Battle of the Bulge. This coat's outer shell is constructed of an OD#3 (khaki) cotton material, with a melton wool lining. It retains its original, matching set of technical sergeant rank insignia patches and honorable service ruptured duck patch. Inscribed on the coat's lining is the original owner's laundry number and surname, "W-8007" and "WHITE". A search of the National Archives unfortunately reveals too many results to be conclusive. Its manufacturer's and size labels have since been removed but please refer to the Measurements section for more details.
Provenance
Personal Collection of Chelius Carter
Condition Report
This coat is in fair, well used condition. The outer shell exhibits some tears, and the lining shows significant mothing. All of its original buttons remain present; however, some are broken and its belt is missing.
