Description
This is an original pair of WWII U.S. Army and USAAF M-1944 Type I general purpose goggles from "STOCK No. 74-G-77", manufactured by H. L. Bouton Co. of Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. These are believed to have been developed with the intent of combining the M-1944 sun, wind and dust goggles with the type B-8 flying goggles, giving a universal platform with the option to customize lenses based on the wearer's needs. This set includes the goggles, cardboard box, instructions, and 10 replacement lenses (note the "Polaroid Aviation" labeling). The goggles are marked atop "B, BOUTON".
Provenance
Private Collection, Longville, Minnesota
Condition Report
These goggles are in excellent, lightly used condition. The lenses are intact, and the rubber frame remains pliable; however, the elastic band is slightly stiff, but no issues should be encountered when used for display.
