Description
This is an original and exceedingly rare WWII U.S. "commando" camouflage M-1 helmet net of British manufacture. Starting in 1942, these were produced expressly for the U.S. and were most commonly issued to members of the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 32nd Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater of Operations. When its drawstring is pulled tight, the net’s sides bunch up, forming a sunburst-type effect, making these readily recognizable in wartime photographs. They were designed to be worn with the excess material either tucked neatly between the shell and the liner, or with the front material out, forming a sniper veil. It is displayed here on a fixed loop helmet set (not included) but would also be appropriate for swivel loop helmets.

Condition Report
This helmet net is in very good, used condition. Although originally constructed of OD#7 (green) material, these often faded to a salmon color when exposed to sunlight. This example shows only minor fading. There is an enlarged hole near the top of the net, likely a result of the original owner setting his helmet down on its crown.
