Description
This original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner headband was produced by Johnson & Johnson. It features the double wire buckle variation and second pattern spring clips, which have a straight bottom edge, approximately dating the headband's production from early to mid-1942. It is marked, (presumably) with the original owner's last four digits of their Army Service Number and initials, "7847" and "V.P.", respectively. A search of the National Archives unfortunately did not reveal a match. This would be an ideal headband for all helmet liners with non-painted steel A-washers (including Hawleys and low-pressure liners).
Provenance
Private Collection, Stevens Point, Wisconsin
