Description
This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner headband. Unfortunately, its manufacturer's marking has faded but it appears to have been produced by Bates Shoe Co. It features a green painted steel buckle, second pattern spring clips, and a rare variation only seen on mid-1942 examples - the fabric on the reverse was stitched over the leather's fold. This would be an ideal headband for all helmet liners with non-painted steel A-washers (including Hawleys and low-pressure liners).
Provenance
Private Collection, Burlington, Kentucky
Condition Report
This headband is in fair, well used condition. Generally, the leather remains pliable; however, there is some cracking throughout.
