Description
This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner leather chinstrap. It features a blackened brass buckle and United Carr rivets. The cam lever's underside is slightly covered in verdigris but does not appear to be marked with a patent number, approximately dating its production from mid to late-1944. This would be an ideal chinstrap for a high-pressure helmet liner with either green painted steel or blackened brass A-washers.
Provenance
Private Collection, Crossville, Tennessee
Condition Report
This chinstrap is in good, used condition. The leather's surface exhibits some flaking but remains soft and pliable.
