Description
This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner leather chinstrap. It features a blackened brass buckle and United Carr rivets. The cam lever's underside is stamped with the patent number of "2363872", approximately dating the chinstrap's production to November 28, 1944. This would be an ideal chinstrap for a high-pressure helmet liner with blackened brass A-washers.
Provenance
Private Collection, Oakfield, Wisconsin
Condition Report
This chinstrap is in good, used condition. The leather has conformed to the shape of a helmet liner's brim and is not likely pliable enough to fit over both a liner and a steel shell. The brass hardware shows some verdigris.
