Description
This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner leather chinstrap. It features a blackened brass buckle, United Carr rivets, and The Hagerstown Leather Co. leather. The cam lever's underside does not appear to be marked with a patent number, approximately dating its production from mid to late-1944. This would be an ideal chinstrap for a high-pressure helmet liner with either green painted steel or blackened brass A-washers.
Provenance
Private Collection, Kenai, Alaska
Condition Report
This chinstrap is in good, used condition. The leather has conformed somewhat to the shape of a helmet's visor. It exhibits some surface flaking and a minor tear but it generally remains soft and pliable.
