Description

This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner leather chinstrap. The green painted steel buckle is the early variation with the flat cam lever, approximately dating the chinstrap's production from late-1942 to mid-1943. The buckle is secured by an unmarked rivet. This would be an ideal chinstrap for a helmet liner with either non-painted or green painted steel A-washers.

Provenance

Private Collection, Williamston, North Carolina

Excellent

This chinstrap is in good, used condition. The leather has conformed to the shape of a helmet liner's brim and is not likely pliable enough to fit over both a liner and a steel shell.
