Description
This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner leather chinstrap. It features a green painted steel buckle and unmarked rivets, approximately dating its production from mid-1943 to mid-1944. Stamped in black ink on the leather's underside is a circled "H", denoting supply from The Hagerstown Leather Co. This would be an ideal chinstrap for a high-pressure helmet liner with either green painted steel or blackened brass A-washers.
Provenance
Private Collection, Burlington, Iowa
Condition Report
This chinstrap is in good, used condition. The leather remains soft and pliable; however, its surface exhibits minor white paint overspray.
