Description

This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner leather chinstrap. The green painted steel buckle is the early variation with the flat cam lever, approximately dating the chinstrap's production from late-1942 to mid-1943. The buckle is secured by an unmarked rivet. Stamped into the leather near this rivet is an "R" within a keystone logo, denoting leather supplied by C. F. Rumpp & Sons, Inc. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This would be an ideal chinstrap for a helmet liner with either non-painted or green painted steel A-washers.

Provenance

Private Collection, Jeffersonville, Indiana

Excellent

This chinstrap is in fair condition. The leather has stiffened with time and has conformed to the shape of a helmet liner's brim, making it not likely pliable enough to fit over both a liner and a steel shell.
