Description
This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner neckband. It exhibits blackened brass United Carr snaps. Neckbands were constructed with brass snaps for a short time in mid-1942 and then again in late-1943 when brass was no longer a scarce material. This makes it ideal for a high-pressure helmet liner with either green painted steel or blackened brass A-washers.
Provenance
Private Collection, Dallas, Texas
Condition Report
This neckband is in good condition; all four snaps are intact, and the fabric is strong. However, its manufacturer's stamping has faded beyond legibility and there is some green paint splatter on it.
