WWII U.S. M-1 Helmet Liner Rayon Headband (Size 7 1/8)

Description

This listing is for a single original and exceedingly rare first pattern WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner rayon headband; however, three are available. First pattern rayon headbands featured an unnecessary leather strip that was not in contact with the wearer's forehead. This strip was eventually eliminated on second pattern examples as a cost-saving measure. Regarding rarity, we have owned hundreds of the second patterns and only four first patterns. Interestingly, all known first pattern headbands are manufacturer marked "CG", are size 7 1/8, and exhibit nickel-plated brass United Carr snaps - potentially indicating a single contract by just one producer. These would be ideal headbands for Hawleys, St. Clairs, or even prototype liners.

The headband you receive might not be the exact one shown here; however, it will be substantially similar and, of course, original.

Condition Report

These headbands are in excellent, unissued condition. The leather remains soft and pliable, all of the snaps are present, and the size markings are still legible.
