Description
This is an original WWII U.S. M-1C paratrooper helmet liner chincup. These were first issued during Operation Market Garden (the invasion of the Netherlands) in late 1944. It is constructed of OD#3 (khaki) webbing and exhibits four zamac (zinc alloy) eyelets on each side. When originally issued, the center chin support would have been marked "U.S."; however, this example's marking has since faded beyond legibility. This would be an ideal chincup for a Westinghouse paratrooper helmet liner.
Provenance
Private Collection, Caro, Michigan
Condition Report
This chincup is in good, used condition. The eyelets show some oxidation, and the webbing is slightly soiled.
