Description
This original WWII U.S. M-2 Presto paratrooper knife was manufactured by George Schrade Knife Co. Inc. of Bridgeport, Connecticut. American paratroopers often carried these in the small pocket on the M42 jump jacket's placket, allowing them to cut their parachute risers if they were to land in a tree or other elevated position. The blade's ricasso is marked "PRESTO, PAT. JAN. 30-40, MADE IN U.S.A." on one side, and "GEO. SCHRADE, KNIFE CO. INC., B'P'T CONN." on the reverse. It retains its original "worm groove" plastic handles. Overall, it measures approximately 8.5 inches in length, with the blade itself measuring just over 3.5 inches.
Provenance
Private Collection, Fort Myers, Florida
