Description
This is an original WWII U.S. M1941 field jacket. The M1941 was the most prevalent field jacket during WWII and was utilized by all branches of the Armed Services. Its outer shell is constructed of an OD#3 (khaki) cotton material, with a "mustard" color wool flannel lining. Its manufacturer's and size labels have since been removed but please refer to the Measurements section for more details. Stitched to its collar is a name tag which reads "317, GERRY BELLO" in an Art-Deco style font. We are uncertain whether this is a wartime addition; however, we did locate a Gerald Bello, 32921650, who enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 13, 1943. There is also evidence of a now-missing name tag, once stitched to the chest, and a faint laundry number marked on the placket's interior.
Provenance
Personal Collection of Chelius Carter
Condition Report
This jacket is in fair, well used condition. There are several repairs throughout, two buttons are missing on its placket, the original TALON zipper still functions; however, its pull tab is missing. Interestingly, the shoulder repairs were likely done following the poor removal of a set of officer's rank insignia patches.
