Description
This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet set. The front seam fixed loop helmet shell was manufactured by McCord Radiator & Manufacturing Co. of Detroit, Michigan and exhibits a lot number of "363D", approximately dating its production to late-1942. The helmet retains its original olive drab factory finish and cork texture. Interestingly, the chinstrap is actually a field-improvised replacement. The helmet's liner was produced by Inland Manufacturing Division, a subsidiary of General Motors Company located in Dayton, Ohio. It features non-painted steel A-washers and a transitional OD#3 suspension with snaps designed to accommodate the rayon headband and folded ends on the neck support, which approximately dates the liner's production from mid-1942 to mid-1943. The suspension comes complete with its original headband, neckband, and damaged leather chinstrap. Like the steel shell, the liner also retains its original olive drab factory finish with rust staining matching that of the shell's interior, showcasing their long history together as a set.
