Description

This original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet set showcases original hand painted insignia of the 3rd Infantry Division beneath a textured light green field repaint, often attributed to the Mediterranean Theater of Operations. The front seam fixed loop helmet shell was manufactured by McCord Radiator & Manufacturing Co. of Detroit, Michigan and exhibits a lot number of "191A", approximately dating its production to mid-1942. In addition to the original painted markings, affixed to the front of the helmet is a sterling silver captain's rank pin. Its original OD#3 (khaki) chinstraps are outfitted with brass hardware and a raised bar buckle. The helmet's liner was produced by Mine Safety Appliances Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It features non-painted steel A-washers and an OD#3 suspension with folded ends on the neck support, approximately dating the liner's production to late-1942. The suspension comes complete with its original headband and neckband, both of which were manufactured by Johnson & Johnson. Like the steel shell, the helmet liner also exhibits captain's rank insignia and dripped on the liner's brim is the same green field repaint, showcasing their long history together as a set.
