Description
This is an original WWII U.S. front seam fixed loop M-1 helmet shell. It was manufactured by McCord Radiator & Manufacturing Co. of Detroit, Michigan and exhibits a lot number of "122C", approximately dating its production to early-1942. The helmet retains an original olive drab field repaint, cork texture, and OD#3 (khaki) chinstrap with brass hardware and a raised bar buckle. The chinstrap's webbing is faintly stamped with the original owner's laundry number.
Provenance
Private Collection, Raleigh, North Carolina
Condition Report
This helmet shell is in fair condition, with wear consistent with that of a combat-used example. Unfortunately, one of its fixed loops and the corresponding chinstrap are missing.
