Description
This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet set. The front seam fixed loop helmet shell was manufactured by McCord Radiator & Manufacturing Co. of Detroit, Michigan and exhibits a lot number of "504B", approximately dating its production to mid-1943. The helmet retains its original olive drab field repaint, cork texture, and OD#3 (khaki) chinstraps with brass hardware and a raised bar buckle. The helmet's liner was produced by Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It features green painted steel A-washers and an OD#3 suspension, approximately dating the liner's production from mid-1943 to mid-1944. The suspension is marked with the original owner's initials, "E.E.N." It has recently been completed with an original Paul K. Weil Co. headband and a George Frost Co. size small neckband.
Provenance
Private Collection, Dallas, Texas
Condition Report
This helmet set is in good, used condition, with wear consistent with that of a combat-used example. The steel shell exhibits a stress crack at the rear, and the liner's original olive drab finish is flaking.
