Description
This is an original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet set. The front seam swivel loop helmet shell was manufactured by McCord Radiator & Manufacturing Co. of Detroit, Michigan and exhibits a lot number of "1017F", approximately dating its production to late-1944. The helmet retains its original olive drab factory finish, cork texture, and OD#3 (khaki) chinstraps with brass hardware and a raised bar buckle. The helmet's liner was produced by Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It features blackened brass A-washers and an OD#3 suspension, approximately dating the liner's production from mid-1944 to 1945. The suspension comes complete with its original headband and neckband. Like the steel shell, the liner also retains its original olive drab factory finish.
Provenance
Private Collection, Dallas, Texas
Condition Report
This helmet set is in very good condition; however, the liner's suspension is frayed at the front, and the steel shell shows evidence of another helmet being stacked on top of it for some time.
