Description
This is an original WWII U.S. front seam swivel loop M-1C paratrooper helmet shell. It was manufactured by McCord Radiator & Manufacturing Co. of Detroit, Michigan. The lot number of "98_A" is partially concealed beneath a layer of surface rust; however, we know it approximately dates to late-1944 due to its transitional manganese steel rim meeting at the front. The helmet retains an original olive drab field repaint, cork texture, and OD#7 (green) paratrooper chinstraps with brass hardware and a flat buckle.
Provenance
Private Collection, Rome, Georgia
Condition Report
This helmet shell is in fair, well used condition. Unfortunately, the helmet is misshapen and cracked at the rear. Some difficulties may be experienced when trying to install a liner. The chinstraps show signs of wear and verdigris, and there is surface rust throughout.
