Description
This is an original, large WWII U.S. mosquito net tent, issued to both soldiers and Marines throughout the Pacific to limit malaria casualties; however, there is also evidence of these being cut up and used as helmet netting (the wartime image shows one such helmet belonging to a KIA in Metz, France). Its official nomenclature is the "Bars, Insect, Field", and was manufactured by the United States Cabinet Bed Co. on July 21. Unfortunately, the seam was stitched right through the date portion of the manufacturer's tag; however, after reviewing others, we're confident it dates to 1943.
Provenance
In July of 2025, Gustafson's acquired the inventory of Circa1941. This piece was among those acquisitions.
Condition Report
This mosquito net tent is in good, used condition. Care should be expressed while handling, as the mesh material has been known to tear if not handled delicately.
