Description
This is an original WWII U.S. son in service window banner. These would have been displayed in the windows of the childhood homes of U.S. servicemen, with the number of stars representing how many sons from that household were in the service. It is constructed of silk, with a red backing, white center, and single blue star, denoting one son in the service. Interestingly, the banner's reverse shows a much more vibrant red than the front of the banner, indicating longtime exposure to sunlight. The banner itself measures approximately 6 inches wide and 7 inches tall, with an 11-inch hanger.
