Description

This original WWII U.S. M-1 helmet liner showcases original hand painted insignia of a private in the military police. Additionally, painted on the rear of the liner is a small black cross. Hastily painted insignia is sometimes mistaken for being post-war applied; however, we do not believe that to be the case with this liner. It was produced by St. Clair Rubber Company of Marysville, Michigan. It features non-painted steel A-washers and a Johnson & Johnson manufactured OD#3 (khaki) suspension. The suspension comes complete with its original headband and neckband. The headband has been secured in place with the use of original medical tape. The original owner's name, "Rabe", is painted on the interior visor in the same red paint as the exterior markings. The liner's exterior retains its original textured olive drab factory finish with non-textured rivet heads - a combination only seen on these low-pressure liners produced during a very short period in late 1942.
